Is Scalenut or Frase better for a startup?
Frase is better for most startups that run content in-house, and Scalenut is better for teams that want volume or want the work done for them. Both now sell themselves on AI search: Frase calls itself "the content operating system for AI search", and Scalenut's headline is "Human experts. AI Agents. Make you win the AI Search."
The difference is the operating model. Frase is a self-serve platform that runs "SEO and AI search end to end: audit, research, writing, publishing, hosting", and it plugs into Claude and other assistants over MCP. Scalenut is a self-serve platform too, but its distinctive offer is a managed VIP service where a senior strategist, writers and editors and AI agents do the work, and nothing publishes without the strategist's sign-off.

Which writes better SEO and GEO content?
Both write and optimize for Google and AI answers; Scalenut produces more articles per dollar, and Frase wraps more of the workflow around each article. Scalenut's plans are counted in GEO articles, article optimizations and keyword clusters: 5, 30 or 75 of each a month. Its Content Optimizer and GEO scoring sit in a built-in GEO engine, Cruise Mode drafts articles, and every plan includes unlimited tones of voice.
Frase's AI agent drafts from SEO research and topic clusters, with SEO and GEO optimization scores and Brand Voice on every plan. Internal linking suggestions start on Professional. Content Guard watches published pages for decay. If you write mostly with an assistant, Frase's MCP server lets Claude, Cursor and Windsurf drive the same tools.
Whichever you choose, the brief matters more than the tool. Our guide to SEO content strategy covers what to brief first.
Which is better for AI search optimization?
Frase tracks more prompts, more often, in more engines on its self-serve plans; Scalenut adds Reddit and backlink services around the tracking. Frase includes 50, 200 or 500 prompts, tracked daily with alerts, in more than 40 countries, with cited-URL positions and sentiment. Starter covers ChatGPT and Google AI, Professional adds Perplexity, and Scale adds Claude and Gemini. Frase states that AI Visibility "does not automatically fix content".
Scalenut's self-serve plans track 10, 25 or 100 prompts with a weekly refresh, in ChatGPT and Google AIO, with Perplexity added on Professional. Its AI Visibility reports brand mentions, historical trends, prompt coverage and competitor share. Around it sit a GEO Action Center, AI bot monitoring, Social Upreach for Reddit and a Backlinks Marketplace, which suit teams that want off-site work too.

Which suits a small team better?
Scalenut is kinder to growing teams on seats, and Frase is kinder to a solo founder on price. Scalenut's Plus plan allows up to 4 team members and Professional allows unlimited members and domains. Frase includes 1 seat on Starter, 3 on Professional and 5 on Scale, with extra seats at $29 a month each.
A founder writing alone gets the most from Frase Starter at $49. A content team of five or more will often find Scalenut Professional at $199 better value than Frase Scale at $299, if weekly prompt tracking is enough.
Do Scalenut and Frase work with AI agents like Claude?
Frase does, openly and on every plan; Scalenut's agents run inside its own platform and service. Frase publishes a hosted MCP server and a CLI, is listed in Claude's connector directory, and includes 5,000, 20,000 or 50,000 API, MCP and CLI requests a month. Publishing waits for your approval by default, and auto-publishing low-risk changes is a setting you turn on.
Scalenut says it "runs a swarm of specialized AI agents 24/7 with a team of senior GEO experts". Its pages don't mention an MCP server or API for your own assistant. If your team already works in Claude Code or Cursor, that tips the choice toward Frase. Our roundup of MCP servers explains the setup.
Which should you choose?
Choose by who does the work: you, your AI assistant, or someone you pay.
- Pick Frase if one person runs content, you want daily AI tracking in up to five engines, or you work through Claude or Cursor.
- Pick Frase if you want hosting and publishing to Webflow, Sanity or Wix from the same tool.
- Pick Scalenut if you need 30 to 75 articles a month on a budget, or a team of five or more without per-seat fees.
- Pick Scalenut's VIP service if you would rather hire a strategist, writers and link building than run the tool yourself.
What if content isn't your main bottleneck?
Then a content tool alone won't fix it, and a planning tool may fit better. Scalenut and Frase both start from articles. If your site also has technical issues, missing comparison pages or AI crawlers blocked at the CDN, something has to decide which of those matters most this week.
That is the job LogNorm does, and it is a different job. It turns a site and GEO audit, keywords, competitors and AI answers into moves ranked against each other, briefs and checks content against your own facts, and lets your coding agent work the list. It starts at $99 a month. See LogNorm vs Frase and LogNorm vs Scalenut for direct comparisons.
