Why do people look for Ahrefs alternatives?
People leave Ahrefs mostly over how the bill scales. Lite is $129 a month for one user, extra users cost $40 each on Lite and up to $80 each on Advanced, and the cheapest plan runs on credits.
The $29 Starter plan gives 200 credits a month, and Ahrefs says you can't add users, credits or other add-ons to it. That suits a quick check, not a team's weekly work.
AI search is the newer cost. Lite tracks 5 AI prompts. The Brand Radar AI Visibility Index starts at $199 a month, and custom prompt packages run from $50 to $250 a month on top. Ahrefs also states it never runs discounts.
The last group are startups that bought Ahrefs to grow and found they mostly needed to know what to fix and write next. Backlink depth doesn't help much if no one has time to act on it.
How we chose these Ahrefs alternatives
We chose tools that cover the jobs people use Ahrefs for, and we priced each one from its own pricing page on 2 Oct 2026.
- Backlink and keyword data, since that's why most teams bought Ahrefs.
- The real cost for a team of two or three, including extra users.
- Predictable pricing: plan limits you can read, rather than credits that run out.
- AI visibility tracking included in the plan, or the price of the add-on.
- A self-serve plan with a published price.

Which Ahrefs alternative fits your team?
Match the tool to the work you actually did in Ahrefs last month.
- You audit and build backlinks every week: Semrush, or Moz Pro if you want something lighter.
- You run several client sites and keep adding seats: SE Ranking or Serpstat.
- You only check keyword difficulty and a few competitors: Mangools.
- You're a startup that needs to know what to fix and publish this week: LogNorm, with your coding agent doing the fixes.
- AI answers matter as much as Google rankings: compare included prompts and engines, because add-on costs differ widely.
When is Ahrefs still the better choice?
Ahrefs is still the better choice when backlink research is your main job. Link builders, digital PR teams and SEO consultants who live in Site Explorer will find most alternatives thinner.
It's also a fair pick for one person on Lite who doesn't need extra seats. The pain starts when you add users, prompts and Brand Radar.
Frequently asked questions
Is Ahrefs free?
Partly. Ahrefs Free, formerly Ahrefs Webmaster Tools, gives limited Site Explorer and Site Audit access for websites you verify. Full keyword and competitor research needs a paid plan, starting with the credit-based Starter at $29 a month.
What is the most affordable Ahrefs alternative for small businesses?
Mangools is the most affordable full toolset here at $30.50 a month, or $18.85 paid yearly, with keyword research, backlinks and rank tracking. Serpstat is the cheapest way to get three users.
What tool is most similar to Ahrefs?
Semrush is the closest match in scope, with its own keyword and backlink databases, site audit and rank tracking. SE Ranking is the closest match at a lower price.
Is there anything better than Ahrefs for startups?
It depends on the gap. If you need link data, Ahrefs is hard to beat. If what you lack is time to act on data, LogNorm turns your audit, keywords, competitors and AI answers into a ranked plan your agents can work.
Do Ahrefs alternatives include AI visibility tracking?
Most include some. SE Ranking tracks 100 prompts daily on Core, Moz Pro tracks 150 weekly on Standard, and LogNorm tracks 10 on Starter in ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Ahrefs charges separately for Brand Radar beyond the prompts in its plans.
